Machteld Rosa Maria Vossen is a Dutch classically trained lyric soprano who is currently coached by Diana Damrau. Her repertoire ranges from oratorio, art song and opera to cross-over projects. As a soloist and ensemble singer, she has already performed in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, France and Austria.

As a concert soloist, she has performed works such as the Requiem by Gabriel Fauré, Dixit Dominus by George Frideric Handel, Petite Messe solennelle by Gioachino Rossini, the Requiem by John Rutter, as well as both the St John Passion and the St Matthew Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach.

In opera she has sung roles such as Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and the Second Lady and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte. Her repertoire also includes roles such as Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel by Engelbert Humperdinck, Ilia in Idomeneo by Mozart, Ännchen in Der Freischütz by Carl Maria von Weber, and Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi by Giacomo Puccini.

Together with pianist Nicole Kielbasiewicz, she forms a lied duo that mainly performs songs from the German, French and Spanish Romantic repertoire. She can also be heard in combination with pianist Hans Adolfsen.

As an ensemble singer she has taken part in the world premieres of Diamanda La Berge Dramm’s Roeptoeterconcertat the Oranjewoud Festival in 2021 and Alexander Raskatov’s opera Animal Farm, based on the satire of the same title by George Orwell. This production was performed both at Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam in 2023 (where it won the Award for “Best World Premiere”) and at the Vienna State Opera in Vienna in 2024. In 2026 she will return to the Vienna State Opera for another production of Animal Farm, directed by Damiano Michieletto and conducted by Alexander Soddy.

In 2019, Machteld took part in the Opera Forward Festival of the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam, where she created and performed a short opera. In 2020 she performed at the Grachtenfestival in Amsterdam as part of the Performing Opera Summer School.

Driven by her interest in different art forms and musical styles, she has also collaborated extensively with The Skypainters, a jazz ensemble with influences from classical music. Together with this band she recorded the song Glimmer, composed by band leader and guitarist Kirill Dumchenko.

Machteld attended several theatre and vocal courses in France, Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands, where she received valuable lessons from Teru Yoshihara, Margreet Honig, Elsina Jansen, Wilfred van de Peppel, David Prins and Noam Holdengreber. She has also received masterclasses from Nico van der Meel, Paul McNamara, Eelko Molenaar, Rosemary Joshua, Chelsea Bonagura and Peter Sellars.

At the age of eight, Machteld began singing with Vocaal Talent Nederland, a national training choir for young talent. With these choirs she performed under the baton of conductors such as Simon Rattle, Mariss Jansons and Iván Fischer.

At the age of 21 she decided to continue her musical journey at the conservatory with Hanneke de Wit and Paul Triepels. After obtaining her bachelor’s degree, she studied with Margreet Honig in Amsterdam, Teru Yoshihara in Stuttgart and Hans Adolfsen in Zurich. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree at the Zurich University of the Arts with soprano Diana Damrau.
